I perfectly agree with you! Indirect and "subtle" marketing as you described it is much more effective. Although my own site http://lovesurvivor.blogspot.com is only a couple of weeks old, I have written and published four content-rich articles by now with just a link to my site and a short description at the end of each. Those articles have been picked up by several e-zines and websites already; so far I have had a few thousand visitors coming from these sites - all for free. Very encouraging.
